Broomriders was founded on the basis that Witchcraft, being an Earth-based Practice, should be held with the same regard, the utmost respect, dignity, dedication and reverenceB that it did long ago. As Witches, we are dedicated servants to Mother Earth; our goal is to take care of her, nurturing her resources and working with the bounties that she so graciously provides. We work with the elements, spirit worlds, plant life, and natural resources.
This honored position of Witch is not to be taken lightly. It holds no tolerance for silliness, trashing of others beliefs, pixie dust, or Witch Wars.
For those who seek a path to the Craft, are not turned off by hard work, and are ready to dedicate their DAILY lives to Witchcraft and all that being a Witch involves.......Broomriders might just be your home away from home.

Magick, Is the Projection of Natural Energies To Produce Needed Effects along with “Changing consciousness at will.”
Nature is always lovely, invincible, and glad, no matter what is done and suffered by her creatures. She heals all scars, whether in rocks or water or sky or hearts.” – John Muir
BORN TO BECOME A WITCH
"You are born to become a witch.
Learn from your mistakes...or not, we are only human. Allow your mistakes.
If you read a book about how to be a witch, you will only be learning how to be a 'witch' according to the author.
You can have your head in the clouds but make sure your feet are firmly planted on the ground.
Witches work well alone.
You will never stop being a witch.
You don't need tools, the most important tool is your mind.
Have as many tools as you like
Don't worry about what others think of your path, do you really worry about theirs?
Get herbal knowledge.
Learn what your abilities are, if you can heal but cannot hex, stick with healing and visa versa.
If you can't read tarot, is it really the end of your witchy career?
If you don't believe in deity, you are still a witch.
If you don't celebrate esbats, sabbats etc, you are still a witch.
If you don't recognise the berry, don't eat it.
Have a good look at witchcraft history, people still think that wicca pre -dates everything.
There are many witchcraft paths, explore them.
Witchcraft is not a religion, any one can be a witch.
Witchcraft does not have laws or rules, it has trial and error.
You really cannot tell a witch what to do (unless you like being a toad!)
There may be pretty crystals and jewels but a dried toad, graveyard dirt and pee certainly have their place, dont be squeamish."

THE POWER OF WORDS
Some people who are not necessarily British traditionals call themselves Wiccans because the term is less loaded than Witch. Or they may described themselves as practitioners of the Old Religion or Nature Religion. Or as Pagans or Neopagans. To me, this is retreating from our potential. I believe people use these terms because they are less loaded than the term Witchcraft, which comes complete with centuries of bad press. They are more respectable. I want respect for my spiritual practices from the rest of society, but I don't necessarily want respectability.
In addition, by calling ourselves Witches, we honor our oppressed foremothers who survived centuries of inequities. Reclaiming Witches place a high value on social justice. Reclaiming a word that was used to denigrate our foremothers identifies us more strongly with them. It reinforces our work on behalf of the disenfranchised and against all forms of injustice.
Pagan writer Chas S. Clifton suggests that some people use the term Wicca to absolve themselves of "performance anxiety." If you are "Wiccan," you are merely practicing a weird little fringe religion, but if you are a "Witch," then people want you to Do Things - bring back their lover, cure their disease, etc. I agree that this is one of the reasons, not necessarily a conscious one, why people shy from calling themselves Witches.
So we in Reclaiming call ourselves Witches for the very reason that others do not. It's an in-your-face word. We, as feminists and people who honor our own divinity as well as our interdependence with the rest of Gaia, the Mother, reclaim the term Witch.
The word Witch evokes power. What better word to describe a movement of Goddess-worshipping, Nature spirituality, Earth lovers, tree huggers, healers, performers of "all acts of love and pleasure"?
Seattle singer/songwriter/musician Charlie Murphy, although it may not have been his intent, describes our tradition of Witchcraft succinctly and eloquently in his chant "Calling on the Power" when he sings, "With visions of the past and memories of the future, claiming our power to survive."

Alayna is the Founder/creator of Broomriders. Dedicated to the Craft, she considers herself an Atheist Witch, with a strong passion for all things Matriarchal, the greatest one being Mother Earth, or Gaia.
A life long resident of the state of Massachusetts, she holds the trials of Salem and the persecution of the 20 innocents close to her heart, refusing to "let go" of the past atrocities of ALL the Innocents victimized at the hands of the church and an ignorant and unknowing society.
Her goal, is to bring the truth; that which is the beauty of the Craft, to the forefront, so that those who fear Witchcraft, will no longer have the need to do so, as we fear only what we do not understand.
Valerie is the Administrator on Broomriders. She follows the path of a Green Witch, is a wife of 34 years, a mom to 9 and a grandmother to 10. Val resides in the State of Maryland and can be found here and on many other sites offering her assistance to those who need it. We are fortunate to have her with us.

Witchcraft is a way of life for individuals, not the masses, and there's no point in you coming toward the Craft if you are a wimp, a follower, a coward, or a fool, as sorcery is both a practice and a priesthood, and it is not a garment that can be discarded when the going gets tough.
